This pattern is the very popular Giant Vintage Star tutorial by Jeni Baker’s In Color Order. She has a book coming out soon all about half-square triangles, which I think are one of the most dynamic building blocks for a quilt!
This tutorial was made in 2011 so you can find lots about it on the internets. I love it because you can make it zero waste by using both halves of the half-square triangles. Using bright solids and an interesting background makes for a fast but interesting quilt! You can make it in like an hour.
WHAT I DID
These solids are all Moda Bellas. I’m obsessed with the darkest red. Insert obligatory plea to manufacturers to start labeling the selvages of solids. It would be so helpful!!!!
The background is Newsprint by Carrie Bloomstom of SUCH Designs for Windham Fabrics.
The quilting is a panto from the flawless team at Urban Spools. When I do get quilts second-party quilted I always go to them. I can drop the top off and they pick the best thread color and pattern for me.
Final verdict: I’d love to see more blocks made giant!
